Hollister Police Warn Public of “Edibles” Circulating Throughout City

Young Woman Arrested For Selling Them To Juveniles

HOLLISTER—The Hollister Police Department arrested a suspect with “Edibles” in a church parking lot on Friday afternoon after a citizen reported suspicious activity. Arrested was 18-year-old Hollister resident Tara Postigo, who was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, along with illegal concentrated cannabis sales.

Police were alerted to suspicious activity at the Hollister Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints parking lot.

The Hollister Police Department is concerned about the sale of “Edibles” infused with THC that may be sold in the city.  These foods are purposely disguised as everyday food to prevent their discovery, but this may lead to unsuspecting victims ingesting these substances. There is the possibility of injury or overdose with these unregulated items sold by Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in California

On Friday, at 3:15 pm, Hollister Police Officer Juan Guevara responded to a citizen complaint that there was a group of men and women hanging around a vehicle in the church parking lot. When Officer Guevara arrived, he contacted four adults and two juveniles in the parking lot adjacent to San Benito High School.

Officer Guevara smelt an odor of burnt marijuana as he was interrogating the group – the smell was coming from a vehicle and one adult female. 18-year-old Postigo admitted to having marijuana in her possession. An investigation revealed the sale of marijuana was occurring.

Officer Guevara discovered “Edibles” in the immediate vicinity of the group. “Edibles” are designed to look like popular foods – in this case they were designed to look like “Fruit Loops” cereal – and infused with THC, which is the chemical most responsible for the psychological effect of marijuana.

Officer Guevara also found a package that resembled rock candy that was also infused with THC. Postigo was arrested and transported to the San Benito County Jail and booked on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of marijuana for sale. There is also an additional charge pending of conducting sales within thousand feet of a school.

Is there scientific evidence proving that one can overdose on marijuana edibles?
