Man Arrested for DUI After Hitting Pedestrian in Wasco

WASCO — A 40-year-old pedestrian is in the hospital and the 21-year-old driver that put him there is behind bars.

Josh Sanchez was booked into the Kern County Jail on felony DUI with injury, DUI over .08% causing injury, and speeding. His bail has been set at $40,000.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Sanchez, who was intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol, struck Jorge Gomez in the 1900 block Shamrock Court at around 12:30 a.m. early Sunday, February 8.

Deputies arrived on scene and found Gomez suffering from severe injuries to his head and legs. He was transported to the hospital with major injuries.

Sanchez was subsequently taken into custody with a blood alcohol level was at .12, and found to have been traveling above the posted speed limit when he stuck Gomez with his vehicle.
