Escapee Steals Car, Runs from Police

BAKERSFIELD — A Kern County Jail escapee was arrested on Thursday after stealing a vehicle and leading police on a high speed pursuit through the city of Bakersfield.

Christopher Sanchez, 18, was booked into the Kern County Jail on various charges including grand theft auto, felony evading a peace officer, false information to a peace officer, being an unlicensed driver and three no-bail felony warrants that included an escaping from custody charge.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on February 5, when deputies responded to a call of a stolen vehicle.
Sanchez, the driver of the vehicle, led deputies on a pursuit toward east Bakersfield and then west toward Highway 99.

A short time later the pursuit ended near the area of Sidding Lane and west of Enos Lane where Sanchez was taken into custody by deputies and officers from the California Highway Patrol.
