Police Need Help in Finding A Stone Stealer

Suspect Was Caught On Camera

HOLLISTER—Investigators with the Hollister Police Department need the public’s help in identifying the person who stole two decorative stones that were partially buried in the front of Calvista Insurance Company.

The incident occurred on December 23 just about 6 am. On surveillance video, it appears that a woman who’s walking her dog bends down and digs out the two stones.  After a couple of minute the suspect takes the stones and walks away westbound on Fifth Street toward Monterey Street.

Calvita Insurance is in Historic Downtown Hollister. The Granada Theater is seen down the street.

The stones were two decorative stones that were placed outside the Calvista Insurance Company, in their garden. The theft was caught on video surveillance tape from closest camera, a half block away. The building is right across from Hollister’s City Hall in the historic downtown district, and near the distinctive red brick Hollister Methodist Church.

The images show a thin build woman wearing a two-tone hooded sweatshirt with dark pants and white athletic shoes. The lighting conditions made identifying the suspect very difficult, and police are asking for the public’s help. Although the women’s face is not visible, it is possible that someone in the area had seen the women and her dog, and may even know her.

Police have patrolled the area on several occasions around the time of the incident but have been unsuccessful in identifying her. Police are asking that anyone with information on this case or the suspect to please call the department at 1-831-636-4330.  Persons wishing to remain anonymous can call the WeTip line at 800-87-CRIME.
