Burglary suspect had just been released from jail

SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz County jail might not be a bad place to spend the holidays. Just ask 52-year-old Santa Cruz/Watsonville transient Jennie Roberts, who had just been released when she encountered police, who promptly put her back into the Jail.

Early Monday morning at 3 a.m., a homeowner on the 100 block of Coloma Avenue awoke from the couch to noises that appeared to becoming from down the hall of his house. As he began to investigate the matter, he found Ms. Roberts, who had let herself in through the front door, sitting in his bedroom gathering things from his home.

The homeowner confronted Roberts and she began to mumble, yell and carry on. The victim forcefully escorted her out of the house, but in a last ditch effort to take something, she grabbed a Pop-Tart for the road.

Once outside the house, she began to pound on the window, yelling and cursing at the homeowner, as if she belonged there and got kicked out. She pounded on the window so hard that she broke it.

She eventually left the house, and the victim called police. As officers began to process the scene they found that Ms. Roberts had dropped her booking papers from The Santa Cruz County Jail inside the home. It seems that she had spent the night in Jail after being arrested by the Watsonville Police Department the day prior. Records show she had been arrested 3 times this year on charges of battery, and once more for contempt of court for disobeying a court order.

It did not take the police long to locate her. She had traveled about half a mile away, and residents of the 200 block of Grant Street began calling as she was seen once again pounding on doors and yelling, causing quite a disturbance.

Ms. Roberts was once again arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on Charges of burglary, vandalism, and violating her probation.
