Police Search for Purse Snatcher in Fresno

FRESNO – Police are looking for the man they believe is responsible for snatching a purse from a woman at a pizza parlor in southeast Fresno earlier this month.

The Fresno Police Department has identified 22-year-old Abel Garcia as a suspect in the incident, which happened on November 1 at Douggy Fresh Pizza at 4776 E. Kings Canyon Road around 8:30 p.m.

The suspect entered the pizza restaurant and acted as if he was ordering food at the register. However, he then turned and grabbed the woman’s purse. The victim tried to hold onto her purse, but Garcia overpowered her and was able to run out with the purse, police said.

Garcia was later identified from a bank surveillance video as he tried to open a bank account with one of the victim’s altered checks, authorities said.

Anyone who has information on this case or the whereabouts of Garcia is asked to call Detective Donnie Dinnell at (559) 621-6334 or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
