Woman Arrested for Abusing Elderly Mother in her Care

BAKERSFIELD — A 34-year-old women was arrested last Thursday after deputies discovered her elderly mother, living in unacceptable conditions.

Tamra Lynn Camp was booked into the Kern County Jail on felony elder abuse charges.

Her bail was set at $50,000.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the gruesome discovery was made when deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Civil Unit were serving a court ordered eviction at 420 Cottonwood Road in southeast Bakersfield at around 11 a.m. on July 3.

It was then that deputies discovered an 73-year-old female living aid rats and litter, which included feces from 13 dogs living inside the one-bedroom apartment.

Wearing disposable paper respirators, deputies conducted an additional investigation, which revealed the apartment had running water but no working toilets.

Deputies also established probable cause to arrest Camp, who had been accused in Kern County Superior Court for elder abuse back in 2012.

Kern County Adult Protective Service’s responded and provided services to the victim, while Kern County Animal Control responded and took possession of the dogs.
