Felon Arrested for Guns, Drugs During Traffic Stop

BAKERSFIELD — A 32-year-old convicted felon was arrested Wednesday afternoon on weapons and narcotics charges during a routine traffic stop in Bakersfield.

Miguel Angel Montes was booked into the Central Receiving Facility on charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm by an active member of a criminal street gang, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a baton and participation in a criminal street gang.

He is being held on $182,500 bail.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Section made a stop on a vehicle Montes was driving at around 2:30 p.m. on June 25

During a ensuing search of the vehicle deputies said that located an unregistered loaded firearm, ammunition, ecstasy pills, a collapsible baton and drug paraphernalia.

Montes, who is on active felony probation and is currently out on bail on a separate felony investigation was immediately taken into custody.
