Wanted fugitive from San Jose found unconscious behind the wheel in Utah

A wanted man for arson and assault out of San Jose, California was found earlier this week in Salt Lake City, Utah. Casey Keil, 29 of San Jose, was found unconscious behind the wheel of a stolen 1998 Honda Civic crashed into a tour bus parked at 161 West 600 South at the Red Lion hotel. Witnesses near the scene called 9-1-1 dispatchers to report an unconscious person who had rear ended a tour bus. The bus was not in operation at the time of the accident.

It is believed that while Keil was high on heroin he had hit the tour bus, causing him to pass out from the collision. According to Salt Lake City police detective Cody Lougy, “A police search of the vehicle turned up a syringe, heroin and stolen items”.

Officers deployed the use of a Taser after Kiel had refused to cooperate with police. Detective Lougy said, “When two dispatched officers attempted to make contact with Kiel, he turned violent, resisted commands and attempted to restart the car and drive away”.

Kiel was caught after a collision at the Red Lion Hotel.

Keil was wanted by the San Jose Police Department for an incident that occurred on June 5, 2014. Keil had gotten into an argument with his stepfather and began to assault him. The fight escalated with Keil taking a gasoline canister and pouring the gasoline in the home. He then lit the gasoline on fire. The San Jose Fire Department was called. Only minor damage was reported to have occurred to the home. San Jose Police responded to the scene, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Kiel was booked into Salt Lake County Main Jail for possession of stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, drug possession (heroine), drug paraphernalia (syringe), and felony hit-and-run.
