Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Deputies shot at suspect after he fled the scene of a robbery

JURUPA VALLEY — On May 31, 2014, Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call of a robbery in progress. Deputies assigned to the station arrived on the scene within minutes of the call at 6:07 PM. The robbery had occurred in a Denny’s restaurant parking lot, located in the 6800 block of Valley Way, Jurupa Valley.

According to the victim, he was in his vehicle in the parking lot when he was approached by the suspect. The victim was then assaulted and the suspect took his cell phones.

Deputies identified a male subject matching the description of the robber, fleeing the scene.  The deputies proceeded to give chase and the suspect led them in the backyard of a private residence, located in the 7100 block of Valley Way. Once the suspect was cornered, he reportedly reached for something in his waistband. Responding to what the officers believed to be a threat, one of the deputies fired on the suspect.

Soto was arrested for robbery and has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
