SACRAMENTO—Sacramento Police arrested Reuben Amaro, 21, and Robert Solorio, 29, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 13 for allegedly shooting a firearm and then trying to swim away from officers in the Northgate area of Sacramento on Monday night.

It appears the Solorio was visiting Amaro, when the two men took a firearm with them as they ventured out in Amaro’s neighborhood.

The men are suspected of discharging a firearm while under the Silver Eagle underpass near the 3400 block of Northgate Boulevard late Monday night, just a few blocks from Amaro’s North Sacramento home. Law enforcement helicopters arrived on the scene and spotted two men fleeing the area, discarding a rifle and swimming across a canal. Officers surrounded the area and took Solorio and Amaro into custody. There have been booked into jail.

Solorio has been in trouble with the law before. He was arrested for DUI and evading officers in March of 2010, and had another DUI in November of 2011. The younger Amaro does not show any recent arrests.
