Yolo Corrections Officials and Sheriff’s Department Personnel Investigate Jail Suicide

On the afternoon of March 19, a suspect in a domestic violence case being held in Yolo County Jail committed suicide in his single occupancy cell.

A Sheriff’s spokesman reported that a correctional officer performing a routine check discovered Nitesh Raj Singh, 33, around 1:30 pm. at the Yolo County Monroe Center. Singh, a West Sacramento resident, had hung himself by a bedsheet strung up to a light fixture in his cell. A correctional officer had checked his cell only 25 minutes previously and found nothing amiss.

Upon the discovery of Singh, correctional personnel immediately administered CPR and persisted in their efforts until paramedics arrived on the scene. Singh was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead there.
The investigation continues.
