Man Arrested Following High-Speed Chase in Fresno

FRESNO – The Fresno Police Department arrested a suspect who allegedly held up a convenience store and then led officers on a high-speed chase that ended with him crashing his car into a fence.

Police learned from a clerk at the 7-Eleven on Chestnut Avenue near Belmont Avenue in East Central Fresno that a man with a plastic bag over his head had held up the store just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The man allegedly told the clerk that he had a gun. He said he demanded money and then ran off, according to authorities.

Officers nearby saw the suspect running away from the store. The suspect, now identified as 47-year-old Daniel Peckham, jumped into a car and took off through a residential neighborhood. Police followed him, but Peckham soon lost control of his car and crashed into a fence, according to authorities.

Both the plastic bag and the stolen cash were recovered, according to police.

Peckham was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of robbery and felony evading arrest.
