Two Arrested for Attempted Murder of Five-Year-Old

BAKERSFIELD — Two people are in jail after being accused of sending a five-year-old girl to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Virginia Rodriguez, 34, and Jesse Brown, 31, of Bakersfield booked into the Kern County Jail on various felony child endangerment charges, torture and attempted murder.

Their bail has been set at $1,000,000.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to a medical aid call at a residence in the 200 block of Cedar Street in central Bakersfield at around 1 a.m. on Feb. 25.

“Upon arrival offices discovered a juvenile victim unconscious with multiple injuries,” said  Sergeant Joe Grubbs, BPD  public information officer. “The juvenile victim was transported to Valley Childrens Hospital in Madera in critical condition.”

Police said officers also found a second juvenile victim at the home, who was taken into protective custody.

Further investigation revealed the first juvenile victim was suffering from blunt force trauma and according to authorities, remains in critical condition at Valley Children’s Hospital.
