Gang Member Arrested for Illegal Weapon and Ammunition

McFarland — Deputies arrested a 29-year-old gang member on probation Tuesday morning after he was found to be in possession of an illegal firearm.

Edgar Ramirez Hernandez was booked into the Kern County Jail’s Central Receiving Facility on multiple weapons charges, including possession of a short-barreled shotgun, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of narcotics paraphernalia and participation in a criminal street gang.

His is currently being held on no bail for violating the terms and conditions of his probation.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Gang Suppression Section and officers from the Kern County Probation Department went to a residence in the 31000 block of Sherwood Avenue in McFarland at around 10 a.m. on Feb, 19. While at the residence, deputies said they made contact with Hernandez, who is currently on Post Release Community Supervision.

Deputies then conducted a search of the residence and located a sawed off shotgun, ammunition and a high capacity magazine.
