Ex con sexually assaults runaway, Riverside police say

An ex-convict was arrested in Riverside Wednesday for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old runaway, Riverside police said.

Erik Boettcher, 34, reportedly picked-up and gave a ride to the young girl, who had run away from home late last week. He allegedly drove her to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her, authorities said. Afterward he reportedly took her to a Corona hotel, where he drugged her and continued his sexual assault.

The victim went to police after Boettcher dropped her off at a parking lot in Riverside, authorities said. He was arrested Tuesday at 5 pm along Bain Street in Jurupa Valley.

Boettcher was arrested when he was found on Bain Street.

Boettcher had been released from prison as part of the state’s realignment plan (AB109) which reduces overcrowding in corrections facilities, according to police.
