Driver arrested for killing girl in crosswalk

San Francisco – A man who struck and killed a 6-year-old girl with his truck on New Year’s Eve has been arrested.

Syed Muzzafar, 57, of Union City, was driving in the Tenderloin when he allegedly struck Sophia Liu, who was walking in the crosswalk with her mother and brother.

Muzzafar was a driver for the transportation tech company Uber, which has a cell phone app that matches people looking for rides with private cars. Uber said on Thursday it had deactivated Muzzafar’s account.

Muzzafar was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
