Quick Response leads to Arrest

Police also credit Witnesses for the Quick Recovery

WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville Police Department is crediting their partnership with the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force, and the willingness of witnesses to provide information, for the quick recovery of several suspects, their vehicle and a firearm used in a Saturday evening shooting.

Saturday at 6:20 p.m., the Watsonville Police responded to the area of Airport Boulevard and Amber Court on a report of multiple gunshots heard.  While the officers were responding they received word that there was a victim that had been shot.  When they reached the scene they found a man in the middle of the road suffering from gunshot wounds to his legs.

Officers secured the area as the Watsonville Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) attended to the victim.  The victim was eventually flown to a Bay Area trauma center. Witnesses told investigating officers, that they saw a light colored Honda sedan leaving the area heading towards Airport Boulevard.

Members of the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force using that information were able to find a vehicle that matched that description in the area of Airport Road. Several suspects were detained and police also recovered a handgun from the vehicle. This incident is still being investigated as a gang related shooting.

The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. “Thanks to the quick response to by the Gang Task Force, we were able to make some arrest, not all were arrested.” Watsonville Police Sergeant Saul Gonzalez said, “This is still be investigated as a gang related shooting, we are not sure that they were the individuals involved in the incident.”
