Woodland Hit-And-Run Driver Acquitted of All Charges

Kristal Sutton

Back on June 30, Kristal Sutton, 28, got into an altercation with Alisa Horner, 58, outside a Woodland 7-11 convenience store on Main Street which culminated in Sutton hitting Horner with her car. Horner later died of her injuries. Sutton fled the scene, but was apprehended minutes later at her nearby Alice Street apartment.

On November 14, a Yolo Superior Court jury in Woodland acquitted Sutton of all charges in connection with the case.

Yolo County Deputy District Attorney Larry Eichele made his case against Sutton for the jury by asserting Sutton had fled because he was certain she was only concerned about “her personal well being.” After she “drove right over” Horner, Sutton argued with witnesses who asked her to stay at the 7-11. But Sutton fled. At home, she called her boyfriend, but, according to Eichele, “she never called police.”

Alisa Horner

Sutton’s attorney, Public Defender Tracie Olson, provided the jury with a different version of the tragic events. Ms. Horner was intoxicated and confronted the petite Sutton by very aggressive panhandling. She yanked open Sutton’s car door and slapped her in the face. When Sutton began driving away, Horner “jumped” in front and at that point was run over.

Eichele related Sutton told police she fled because she did not have car insurance and was afraid they would impound her car.

Olson said when a Woodland police officer informed Sutton that Horner had passed away, Sutton, he said, broke down sobbing and exclaiming how sorry she was.
