Maricopa Man Arrested in Overnight Stabbing Incident

TAFT — Kern County deputies and Taft Police Officers arrested a 28-year-old Maricopa man for allegedly stabbing another man overnight.

1000 block of Bush Street

Dale Allen Knight was booked into the Taft City Jail for assault with a deadly weapon after police said he stabbed 29-year-old Maricopa resident Francisco Javier Mendez on August 7, at about 9:50 pm.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Bush Street in Maricopa, a small suburb just outside the Taft city limits.

When Kern County Sherriff’s deputies from the Taft Substation arrived on scene, they found Mendez suffering from stab wounds to his arm and chest.

He was transported to a Bakersfield hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

Deputies began an investigation after developing probable cause to arrest Knight, and with the assistance of officers from the Taft Police Department, took him into custody at 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, after Maricopa residents familiar with the incident saw Knight walking and called the Sheriff’s Office.
