Hollister Police Make Arrests in Gang Stabbing

HOLLISTER — Authorities with the Hollister Police Department made three arrests in a two-week-old investigation of a stabbing that occurred on the 100 block of San Felipe Avenue. Those arrested are 21-year-old Watsonville Resident Agapito Cavesuela, as well as 19-year-old Daniel Gallegos and a 17-year-old juvenile, both of Hollister.

Despite an uncooperative victim, police surmised that there’d been a physical altercation between the victim and the suspects, during which one suspect used a sharp object to inflict serious bodily injury unto the victim.

On August 3, as the two-week investigation drew to a close, Hollister Police apprehended Cavesuela of Watsonville with the assistance of the Watsonville Police Department. Hollister police also managed to apprehend Gallegos and the juvenile in connection.

All three suspects are known gang members and stand charged on California penal code 664/187 — attempted murder.  Gallegos was also charged with violation of probation.

Both Cavesuela and Gallegos were booked into the San Benito County Jail, while the juvenile was booked into the neighboring San Benito County Juvenile Detention Center.

“Our patrol officers, detectives, and the gang officer have been working hard to bring this investigation to a successful close. It’s with our strong partnership with this community and law enforcement that is really helping our residents to come forward with vital information on these types of cases,” stated Hollister Police Chief David Westrick via press release.

The Hollister Police Department would like to remind citizens that anyone with information regarding the investigation is encouraged to contact Gang Officer Matthew Weiss at 831-636-4330, ext. 132.
