Argument Leads to Shooting of Encinitas Man

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department has arrested a man after he allegedly shot an acquaintance.

The suspect, 32 year-old David Kaufman, is believed to have shot 41 year-old Peter Byrne after the two men got into a dispute.

The shooting occurred in the 700 block of West Bluff Drive in a home’s driveway. Deputies arrived at the house around 12:30 a.m. to find an injured Byrne suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower hip area.

Byrne informed deputies that he and Kaufman had argued, which led to the shooting.

Byrne was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies were able to locate Kaufman and arrested him. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He’s being held on $50,000 bail.
