Today’s arrests are pursuant to a multi-agency ongoing investigation involving both SBPD and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department that went into full swing on the night of the assaults between Eastside and Westside gang factions.

As reported here at the time, the initial arrests in the case involved Edgar Alberto Castellanos, 23, Abraham Vega, 20, Jose Rene Santacruz, 20, Rita Maria Rodriguez Mejia, 23, and Itzel Ramirez, 20, all of Santa Barbara, and all known to the local law enforcement—and all members of a known criminal street gang.

In today’s report to the media, Harwood detailed the arrests of Adrianna Rosemary Marie Burkett, 22, Iris Peneda, 23, and Nancy Moreno, 22.  He indicated that today’s arrests came about as the product of “search warrants served at seven locations” throughout the City of Santa Barbara and neighboring Goleta.

The three women arrested—bringing the total of suspects involved in the stabbings to a total eight—were transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail and booked on charges of attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang, with bail set in excess of $1,000,000 for each.

“The victims admitted to Santa Barbara Cottage hospital for treatment have been released,” Harwood said, adding that the investigation into the case is continuing with additional details yet to be revealed to the public.
