Atascadero Correctional Officer Dies After High-Speed Chase

An Atascadero man is dead after a high-speed chase from CHP officers in San Benito County.

According to CHP, David John Calmere, 41, of Atascadero was the driver in the accident.  Officers tried to pull Calmere over initially on Friday morning around 12:34 a.m.  CHP said Calmere was allegedly speeding through a construction zone in the Prunedale area of Hwy 101 in his Toyota Tundra.

Calmere did not pull over and the chase went on for six miles. CHP says Calmere lost control of his truck and hit both sides of the guardrails before the truck rolled over.

Calmere was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck rolled south of Cannon Road.

Calmere was a corrections officer at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.
