Tulare County man found naked in Delano canal arrested

MCFARLAND — A Tulare County man found naked in a Delano canal was arrested for being in possession of a handgun.

After brandishing a firearm in the area of Driver Road and Whisler Road in Delano on July 17, at about 10:30 p.m., 26-year-old Adell Evans was arrested by Kern County Sheriff’s deputies for being a felon in possession of a handgun, felon in possession of ammunition and possessing a handgun in violation of a court order.

Evans tried to escape by hiding in the Friant Kern canal, but didn't make it...

According to police, Evans, a convicted felon, fled the scene on foot leaving his vehicle behind. While they were searching the area near the abandoned vehicle, a passerby stopped to tell deputies that he believed the suspect was trying to hide under a nearby bridge over the canal on Driver Road.

Deputies went to the bridge and found Evans sitting on the Friant-Kern Canal bank naked, partially submerged and yelling for help. His clothes and a handgun lay about five feet away on a nearby bank. After a few attempts to communicate with Evans, he became unresponsive.

Due to the slippery conditions and the hazards canals present, the Kern County Search and Rescue Unit was called to assist, seizing the handgun and taking Evans into custody.

A Police spokesperson said the suspect sustained no injuries and was booked into the Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility.
