Toddler’s death called homicide by father

BALDWIN PARK—LASD detectives are still investigating the circumstances behind the drowning of a 21-month-old child at the hands of his father.

According to a LASD press release, LASD detectives were called out to assist in the June 12th investigation of what was originally described as a one-year-old female victim, after the child was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Their investigation led them to the residence of 32-year-old David Vazquez on the 3700 block of Downing Avenue in Baldwin Park, where they arrested him for murdering his son, Joshua.

The Vasquez home shows a small grass play yard in front.

LASD officials also revealed that Vazquez had already been under investigation a year earlier for leg surgery was performed for an injury on the then one-year-old child. An investigation was opened at the time by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, but the press release gave no indication whether they took action or not.

Vazquez was booked for murder at the Baldwin Park Police Department where he is being held on $1 million bail.
