The Paso Robles Police Department now has in custody 21 years-old Mario Sanchez Jr. of Templeton after he allegedly attempted to burglarize a vehicle on Sunday.

According to a press release from the PRPD, officers responded to a call from a citizen who told police he had detained a suspected car burglar in the 1000 block of 19th Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a citizen sitting on top of Sanchez.

The citizen informed police that he was inside his nearby residence when he heard a car alarm sounding. He then walked outside and saw Sanchez running from a 1998 Dodge Caravan with a broken window. The citizen said he watched as Sanchez hid in the shadows until the car alarm turned off; after a few moments, Sanchez returned to the car and entered. He then saw the car’s owner exit their residence to check on their vehicle. He warned the car owner’s that someone was inside their van and ran to confront Sanchez. The citizen then detained Sanchez until police officers arrived.

During the arrest, Officers searched Sanchez when they discovered he had 3.7 grams of suspected cocaine in his pocket.
