Hollister Police Investigate Gang Related Shooting

Two victims die as a result of their wounds

HOLLISTER—The Hollister Police Department has identified two of the four victims of last Sunday night’s shooting on the 600 block of Chaparral Court.  They are 20-year-old Ignacio Ruiz and 18-year-old Cruz Navarro both of Hollister. They were pronounced dead at Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister.  Their families have been notified.

Gang Shooting

There were two more adult victims of the shooting who were both flown to Bay Area hospitals for medical treatment.  They are in stable condition but are refusing to cooperate with the Hollister Police Department.

The shooting occurred on Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. when police responded to the area of Chaparral Court on a report of shots fired.  When police arrived they found four adult males outside of a residence on the 600 Block of Chaparral Court suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Hollister Fire Department and American Medical Response teams responded and immediately began to provide medical care and assessment to the victims. All victims were transported to area hospitals.

“The victims are still being uncooperative with us,” Hollister Police Captain David Westrick said. “This is the first such incident this year, we did not see a precursor or warning that this was going to happen and we hope this is not a sign of what’s coming as summer approaches.”

The victims in this case are not cooperating with Hollister authorities, making it hard for investigators to solve this case.  However, some witnesses reported seeing a light colored minivan leave the area around the time of the shooting.

With the remaining victims and others identified as being at the shooting being uncooperative, the Hollister Police Department is looking for the public’s help in solving this case.

This case still appears to be gang related and has been assigned to the Hollister Police Department Gang Task Force Officer.  Anyone with information is askedto contact the department at 1-831-636-4330.
