Man arrested after short vehicle, foot pursuit

Juan Enrique Martinez, 24

SANTA MARIA – Police arrested a 24-year-old man Monday morning after a short vehicle and foot pursuit through a residential neighborhood.

Just before 11 a.m. on May 6, officers located a vehicle in the area of Railroad Avenue and Orchard  Street that had reportedly been stolen. Santa Maria resident Juan Enrique Martinez was driving the stolen vehicle, which officers attempted to stop, according to police.

Instead of pulling over, Martinez allegedly fled in the vehicle for a short distance before he got out of the car and attempted to flee on foot. He was arrested after a brief foot chase and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of evading police, stealing a vehicle and drug possession.
