Stabbing Suspect Arrested

Ventura County – Just before midnight on April 25th, a 911 Emergency call alerted Ventura County Sheriff Units contracted to the City of Camarillo to a violent altercation between two men at the heavily-traveled intersection of Ponderosa Drive and Arneil Road.

Responding Deputies discovered Garlan Weems, 49, at the side of the roadway suffering from multiple stab wounds, and immediately summoned paramedics to the scene.  Weems reported that Matthew Worden, 30, had exited a passing vehicle and argumentatively confronted him.  According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Captain Chris Dunn, Weems did not specify the reason for the confrontation, only that Worden “began arguing with him.”

According to a media outlet Facebook.com posting by Todd Jenkins, an area resident claiming familiarity with the victim, Weems “moved to Camarillo from Reno a couple of years ago. He was just trying to walk to the store with a friend when this douchebag almost ran them over on the sidewalk, then got out and stabbed him.”

Weems was transported from the incident scene to an area hospital where he underwent surgery pursuant to his multiple injuries while an area search for Worden began.  Sometime after midnight on April 26th, Worden was located, identified, and placed under arrest on charges of attempted murder.  He was transported and booked into Ventura County Jail.
