Yum Yum Donut Robbery Suspect Caught After Four-Month Search

VICTORVILLE – A man who robbed a doughnut store in November was arrested by sheriff’s deputies last week, said a report released on Monday.

Surveillance images show the suspect approaching the cashier and then taking cash

Ricky Dan Rodriguez, 24, of Victorville pleaded not guilty to armed robbery at his Monday arraignment at the courthouse in Victorville. Court records said that Rodriguez, who is being held on $200,000 bail, has a public defender assigned to his case. The November 9 robbery, which took place at a Yum Yum Donuts store in the 14500 block of 7th Street, was caught on security video. Police have been searching for him since the crime took place.

According to reports, Rodriguez came inside the store at 3:24 p.m. on Nov. 9 and asked for a cup of water. While the employee’s back was turned, Rodriguez pulled a knife and demanded money from the cash register.
Deputies’ reports said the clerk feared for her safety and gave him the money.

Rodriguez was captured not far from the scene of the crime, on 7th Street in Victorville

Described at the time as a white man about 5-feet, 9-inches in his mid-thirties, the suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt, tan pants and black shoes. He took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled. Employees of the store, said reports, believed the man to be a local transient.

In a news release, deputies said that Rodriguez was spotted in the area of 7th St. and La Paz Drive, which is a short distance from the donut store. Deputies arrived, conducting a brief search of the area before they discovered his whereabouts. They took him into custody without incident. Rodriguez is being held at Victor Valley jail.
