Long Beach Teen Arrested for Stepfather’s Murder

A 19-year-old Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of murder for the shooting death of his stepfather, the Long Beach Police Department said Monday.

Jailed on suspicion of murder was Joel Torres, a Long Beach resident, who was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, police department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said in an e-mailed arrest announcement.

According to Pratt, a shooting was reported at about 11 p.m. Sunday near 69th Street and Long Beach Boulevard in North Long Beach, and arriving officers found Rogelio Aguirre-Lopez, 37, shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Pratt wrote.
