According to the CHPD, on Saturday, March 23, at about 8:30pm, an alert citizen reported seeing two subjects breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of the Sunrise Mall. CHPD officers were deployed as part of the department’s new Directed Patrol Unit and arrived on scene within seconds and witnessed the suspect vehicle immediately fleeing the scene.

The driver reportedly sped eastbound on Greenback, sideswiping a citizen at Greenback and Illinois in Orangevale, causing him to collide into a ditch. The citizen was reportedly not injured.

The two suspects then fled the vehicle. Allied agencies reportedly assisted in forming a perimeter while citizens provided information on sightings, leading to one suspect’s capture in a nearby backyard. Another citizen reportedly alerted police to the second suspect’s whereabouts as he was walking away from the scene.
