Gang Member Arrested With Handgun

The Hollister Police Department arrested alleged gang member Greg Larios of Hollister after he led Officer Luis Torbio on a short foot chase in which he ditched a handgun.

Greg Larios

On Friday morning, Hollister Police Officer Luis Toribio was on routine patrol when he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on San Felipe Road.  Larios, who was driving the vehicle, pulled into the Quick Stop Market parking lot before coming to a complete stop.

He then exited the vehicle and tried to run from the scene.  As Officer Toribio gave chase, he observed Larios toss a silver handgun onto the roadway.  The officer caught up to Larios and detained him a short time later near Jerry’s Restaurant.

With Larios in custody, Hollister Police conducted a search of the vehicle that he was driving.  They found a large concealed knife, a large amount of ammunition and a large amount of drugs.

“As of this time, we can not release the total of the drugs seized because the DA’s office hasn’t released that information yet,” Hollister Police Captain Dave Westick said.

Larios was booked into the San Benito County Jail on charges of a gang member carrying a loaded firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, a gang member prohibited to own ammunition, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing an officer and carrying a dirk or dagger.

“This is an example of a new officer motivated to keep the streets of Hollister safe as possible,” Captain Dave Westrick added. “I am pleased to see that our officers care about this community, it was all around good work.”
