Santa Maria Police Searching for Attempted Kidnapping Suspect

SANTA MARIA – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a male suspect who is believed to have attempted to kidnap a young girl earlier this week as she walking through a neighborhood in the 300 block of West Park Street.

300 Block W. Park Avenue

Officers are searching for a Hispanic male approximately 40 to 50 years old, who was clean shaven and had short black hair at the time of the alleged kidnapping attempt. The suspect weighs about 230 pounds and is 5 feet 5 inches tall.

He was wearing a white tank top and driving a white van, unknown make and model, when he attempted to accost the unidentified female juvenile victim just before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, police said.

As the victim walked past the suspect vehicle, the suspect exited his car and allegedly grabbed the girl by the arm, attempting to drag her into the vehicle.  A short struggle ensued and the victim was able to break free and run for help, according to police.

The suspect immediately fled the area and was not located by police. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-3781, Ext. 277.
