Three Men Arrested for Attempted Robbery in Merced

MERCED – Three men are in jail after they allegedly attempted to rob a man Sunday afternoon.

Brandon Crane

An apartment manager for a complex located at 117 E. 12th Street in Merced called police just before 3 p.m. to report an attempted robbery. He told authorities that three people were about to rob him, one of whom had a gun in his waistband.

Randy Tyler

Two officers were in the area and made it to the scene quickly. The manager pointed out 28-year-old Brandon Crane as one of the men who tried to rob him. Crane took off running and was able to get into a tan 2000 Buick Century and start driving south down E Street.

A pursuit with additional officers ensued until Crane stopped the car in the front yard of a home on Las Brisas Court and took off on foot. A second suspect, 27-year-old Randy Tyler, was found by authorities in the car’s back seat.

Devonte Tyler

As officers continued to pursue Crane, one of the officers who originally responded to the scene took the third suspect, 19-year-old Devonte Tyler, into custody. He is the younger brother of Randy Tyler and was attempting to leave the scene of the alleged robbery when the officer arrested him.

Officers learned that Crane had been spotted hiding in a trash can near East San Pedro Avenue, but then jumped out and ran. Officers were able to catch him in a nearby open field near East San Pedro and La Habra streets.

Both Crane and Randy Tyler are on parole, according to authorities. All three suspects were booked at the Merced County Jail on charges including attempted robbery, conspiracy, being a felon in possession of ammunition and a loaded handgun, and felony evading law enforcement.
