Former Cal Poly Professor Accused of Lewd Act on Campus

Former Cal Poly San Luis Obispo professor Shaun Kelly, 50, has been accused of allegedly masturbating in front of students at the campus library while he was an associate professor at the school.

According to a female witness, a man who originally fit Kelly’s description was observed exposing and massaging himself by a student who was studying at the library just two seats away from the man. She described the man as in his late 40s or early 50s with blond hair, blue jeans, a red long-sleeve shirt and carrying a black backpack.

A male witness stated he saw a man fitting the description but stated he did not see the man expose himself.

Campus police say when they arrived they ran into Kelly who they say matched the witness’ description. Kelly was walking down a staircase and told police he was headed to his office.

Police say when they later saw Kelly he had on different clothes and wet his hair.

According to police, witnesses could not identify Kelly and believe it may be because of the change of clothes and hair.

Police say another witness came forward in June and stated Kelly sat next to her and masturbated. She said it was on the same day as the previous witnesses had stated.

When the charges were first filed, Kelly lost his job as an associate professor at the Bioresource and Agricultural Engineering Department.

Kelley will be facing a misdemeanor charge of exposing himself.
