Allegations were first made in December when the player told her mother that her American Youth Soccer Organization coach had sent her text messages that “were sexual in nature” according to Covina police Sgt. Ray Marquez. When the mother confronted Gutierrez about the messages, he tried his best to placate her.

“The suspect apologized to the victim’s mother for sending the messages and indicated he would stop all interaction with her,” the Covina police said in a statement.

Despite Gutierrez’s efforts, the victim’s mother called police, who opened an investigation. According to Sgt. Marquez, Gutierrez obtained a lawyer shortly after he was contacted by police and through is attorney, set up a deal where he would surrender to police after the holidays.

After Gutierrez failed to turn himself in, Covina police set up surveillance around his home at the 3200 block of Stella Avenue in West Covina, where they were able to arrest him without incident. According to Los Angeles County booking records, Gutierrez was arrested on suspicion of contacting a minor with intent to commit certain offenses. Gutierrez posted the $500,000 bail the morning of his arrest and has since been released. His arraignment was scheduled for February 9th.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Covina police Detective Felipe Munoz at 626-385-5615, or 626-384-5808.
