Man Flees Jewelry Store with $20K Watch, Later Arrested

At this time of year, most patrons of upscale jewelry stores are looking to purchase that perfect gift, but in this case, a suspect got away with an expensive stocking stuffer, to the tune of about $20,ooo!

Fourtane Jewelers

Carmel police reported on Saturday that a man got away with a $20,000 Rolex around his wrist after browsing at Fourtane Estate Jewelers Saturday afternoon. He reportedly escaped with his accomplice despite being followed by a witness all the way to Salinas.

The report stated the incident happened at around 4 p.m. when two suspects wearing dark beanie caps and dark jackets walked into the store located at Lincoln and Fourth in downtown Carmel. “They were browsing the various watches,” reported Carmel Police Sgt. Mel Mukai, and one of the men, described by Carmel Police Department detective Rachelle Lightfoot was a white male with blue eyes, 23-26 years-old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 140 to 150 pounds, asked to try on a pricey Rolex.

According to the report, the two-toned gold and steel watch has diamonds embedded in the face in place of numbers, as well as in the bezel. It’s priced at $19,700. “The staff felt the two were up to no good and remained vigilant while the two were inside,” Lightfoot said.

They ran out of the store still in possession of the Rolex and fled in a silver Nissan.

The other suspect, whom Lightfoot said is taller and stockier, is thought to be 28 to 30 years old, 5 foot 10 and 170 to 180 pounds. He has a black tattoo of a 4-to-5-inch-tall star on the left side of his neck, and Lightfoot said she’s still researching its significance.

UPDATE – James Henrard, 24, was arrested later Saturday at his San Juan Bautista residence in connection with the theft of a Rolex in Carmel.  Police are seeking a second suspect – 22-year-old Jay Bradley.  The suspects were identified from the combination of witnesses, surveillance videos and tips.
