Man Arrested, Later Released, for Murder of Wife

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department have a man in custody who is believed to have murdered his wife in an alleged suicide pact.

According to a sheriff’s department press release, Montana De Oro State Park Rangers made contact with the driver of a vehicle occupied by two people on Monday at approximately 11:26 p.m.

Investigators say deputies discovered the passenger of the vehicle was deceased.

The passenger was identified as Gewynn Mariann Taylor,  81, of Los Osos.

The driver, the victim’s husband, George Leigh Taylor, 86, of Los Osos was found alive in the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s department press release, assistance was requested from different county departments such as detectives, members of the coroner’s office and crime scene investigators.

The driver was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation led to Taylor’s arrest on a charge of suspicion of homicide.

UPDATE – With supporters looking on, George Leigh Taylor heard his charges in court reduced to assisted suicide and was released top the custody of his daughter.  The arraignment is to be continued on December 19.
