Step Father Accused of Sexual Abuse
SALINAS—The Salinas Police Department arrested Andres Montiel, 23, of Salinas after he was accused of sexually abusing his stepdaughter.

On Tuesday, the Salinas Police received a call from the victim’s mother after she disclosed to her that her stepfather had been molesting her for the last several months. Officers were able to confirm that there were several incidences of abuse. The alleged abuse took place at the victim’s residence.
“The victim was visibly upset and the mother, seeing the signs, started the conversation that led to this discovery of abuse,” Officer Miguel Cabrera of the Salinas Police Department said. “The young victim is emotional and hurt that a person of trust could do this to her.”
The abuse occurred over a several month period. After an extensive investigation the Salinas Police were able to identify and locate the suspect. He has been identified as 23-year-old Salinas resident Andres Montiel.
Officers with the Salinas Police Department made contact with Montiel and arrested him without incident. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail on multiple counts of child abuse, lewd acts upon a child under 14 years of age, rape by a foreign object on a child incapable of consent and sodomy.
Authorities asked for a bail escalation, which was granted making his bail amount $535,000.00 dollars.
“We hope that this young lady will use the resources that this city has to offer, like that of counseling, so that this young lady can grow up and be a healthy adult,” Officer Cabrera added.
