Murder Suspect Arrested at U.S-Mexico Border

LAKE ELSINORE – A two month-long search for a murder suspect concluded on Tuesday when authorities made an arrest at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Joseph David Dorsey is accused of the murder of Christine Osborne-Stewart

Joseph David Dorsey, 28, was charged with the strangling of his girlfriend, Christine Osborn-Stewart, 47, of Canyon Lakes, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase at a San Diego motel on August 8. Dorsey was detained by a fugitive apprehension team, said Riverside County spokesman Lt. Evan Peterson. He had been sought for months on the murder charge. Authorities had discovered Osborn-Stewart’s body after acting on a tip from Dorsey’s cousin.

County District Attorney spokesman John Hall said Dorsey was found in the Rosarito area. FBI officials told him late Tuesday that Dorsey had been returned to the U.S. The FBI had obtained a federal warrant for Dorsey’s arrest on September 5. An FBI news release described a scene in which Dorsey was brought by Mexican authorities from Rosarito to the U.S.-Mexico border. An FBI agent and a Riverside County deputy, who serves on the FBI’s Inland Regional Apprehension Team, were at the border station in San Ysidro to take custody.

Dorsey has previous convictions for assault and battery, among other charges. Authorities have not disclosed any possible motives for the murder.

Osborn-Stewart was last seen with Dorsey near a business complex on August 4, according to police reports. Two days later, she was reported missing after not showing up for her job in Hemet, or answering her cell phone. Her remains were found in a large black suitcase, authorities said. Dorsey had been seen wheeling the suitcase in to the motel, and later he left in a dark blue Ford Explorer. Police believe Osborn-Stewart was already dead when Dorsey brought her to the motel. Police did not release information describing the relationship between Dorsey and Osborn-Stewart.

The suitcase with Stewart’s body was found at the Best Western Motel in Poway

According to the FBI release, the IRAT worked with the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, border officers and the FBI to locate Dorsey.
