Grand Theft Gasoline – suspect arrested

An Elk Grove man who targeted the same Roseville Shell station three nights in a row to steal gasoline from its pumps has been arrested at his parents’ home.

According to a Roseville Police press release, Edward Valila, aged 32, is suspected of stealing hundreds of gallons of gas over 3 consecutive nights from the Shell station at 1000 Douglas Blvd. in Roseville. Information from the gas station attendants and video surveillance showed that Valilia was manipulating the gas pumps and using his truck to steal just over a thousand gallons of gas in the 3 day period.

The theft was first reported Friday, September 28th. The loss to the Shell station is estimated to be over $4500. Roseville Police Detectives report that they are currently working with other local law enforcement agencies who are also investigating similar thefts.

Valila was arrested by Roseville Police Sunday evening at his parents’ home in  Elk Grove. He is being held in Placer County jail on charges of Grand Theft, his bail is set at $5,000.
