Sky Valley Woman Murdered by Boyfriend, Left in a Shallow Grave

SKY VALLEY – A Thousand Palms man is accused of murdering his girlfriend following a reported assault and an exhaustive chase. On Thursday Sept. 27, the Palm Desert Sheriff’s station received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the 2300 block of Hot Springs Road in Thousand Palms. The witness reported that a man distraught over a break up with his girlfriend was making threatening statements.

Police first found evidence of a struggle responding to a location on Hot Springs Road

Upon arrival, deputies were redirected to a location on the 21900 block of Hot Springs Road where they discovered evidence of a struggle. However, there was no one at the scene. Following a further lead, the deputies continued to a residence on the 23000 block of Longvue Road. At the appearance of the deputies, a man fled in a red jeep Cherokee. Carl Richard Perdock, a 46-year-old Thousand Palms resident, took the jeep off road into the desert, leading the deputies on an extensive chase. Difficult terrain led the Sheriff’s Department to call on the California Highway Patrol for their assistance with a helicopter and a K-9 unit. These joint efforts led to the eventual location of Perdock who was detained for questioning.

As deputies investigated further, they discovered enough information to begin looking for a possible victim. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit along with Riverside County Sheriff’s Department bloodhound began to search for a body. On Friday Sept. 28 between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Arianna Villareal, 33 years old of Desert Hot Springs, was found in a shallow grave at the residence located at the 2300 block of Longvue Road.

Carl Richard Perdock was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body was found

Perdock was arrested for murder and booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio, followed by murder and assault charges being filed on Oct. 2. Charges included infliction of torture in the slaying. Perdock’s arraignment has been rescheduled for Oct. 16 while the Public Defender’s Office works to appoint him legal representation. He is currently being held without bail.
