Sac Sheriff Investigates Child's Death, Detains Father

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the death of Eshawn Bonnard, 8, and have detained his father, Robert Bonnard, 31, for questioning, according to an official department press release.

On August 27, 2012, Sheriff’s deputies reportedly responded to the UC Davis Medical Center regarding an injured child who had been transported by paramedics from his home. The 8-year-old boy was determined to have suffered significant internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Bureau were reportedly contacted and began an investigation. They determined the boy’s father, Bonnard, was responsible for inflicting the injuries that his son had sustained. Bonnard, who was at the hospital at the time, was taken into custody on felony child endangerment and corporal injury to a child, and reportedly booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

On September 5, 2012, the boy died as a result of his injuries. According to the Sheriff’s department the investigation is ongoing and deputies are working with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s office regarding any additional charges that may be forthcoming.
