Hollister Man Arrested for Carrying Sawed-off Shotgun

HOLLISTER—David Arenas, 30, of Hollister was arrested Thursday by Hollister police after they found him inside a storage unit in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

At about 2 p.m. the Hollister police responded to a suspicious activity call at the Hillcrest Mini Storage on Industrial Drive.  It had been reported that Arenas had been spending a lot of time inside a storage locker and there was a  “chemical order” coming from the same unit.

“The chemical order was probably him smoking ‘Meth’ inside the unit because when we confronted him he had smoking pipe on him,” Hollister Police Captain Carlos Reynoso said. “There was no lab in the unit, all we found was personal property in there, clothes and stuff like that.”

Arenas had refused a worker’s request to exit the storage unit but when police arrived he exited the unit holding a baseball sports bag.  An officer began to question Arenas and while checking the content of the sports bag found drug paraphernalia, an illegal knife and a sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun with ammunition in the sports bag.

Arenas was taken into custody without further incident and was booked into the San Benito County Jail for possession of an illegal firearm, possession of a illegal switchblade and possession of illegal drugs.

The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the citizen that decided to call police and help get an illegal firearm off of the streets.   The Hollister police encourages citizens to report suspicious activity.
