Police Search for Man Accused of Choking, Threatening Girlfriend

The San Luis Obispo police are searching for a suspect who allegedly tried to choke his girlfriend and threatened to kill her.

According to SLOPD, they received a report from a female victim that Dane James Bennett, 23, assaulted her by choking her until she was almost unconscious. The victim also told police that during the assault the suspect also threatened to kill her with a knife.

Police say the suspect fled from the residence prior to the officer’s arrival at the location. They add that Bennett is still outstanding, and they are attempting to locate him in order to conclude their investigation.

It is unknown at the time of press if Bennett has any similar prior crimes or a police record. Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bennett to contact them immediately at 781-7317 or at Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP.
