Attempted Murder Suspect Chased Down by Deputies

MORENO VALLEY – Deputies chased down a recent prison inmate who was wanted on an attempted murder charge and was suspected of stealing a car before he was arrested early Wednesday morning.

When San Bernardino County deputies finally stopped and arrested Rigoberto Albor, 35, at 1:40 a.m., they had pursued him from the San Bernardino County community of Grand Terrace into the Riverside County city of Moreno Valley, where he was arrested at the intersection of Perris Blvd. and Fir Ave. The pursuit totaled 16 miles.

The high speed chase ended in Moreno Valley at Perris and Fir Streets

Police said Albor, who had been released from prison where he had served time for receiving stolen property, was driving a green 1990 Honda Accord that had been reported stolen in the high desert community of Adelanto. A statement said Albor had a $1 million arrest warrant from Riverside County on suspicion of attempted murder.

When San Bernardino County deputies first encountered Albor in Grand Terrace at 1:20 a.m., the chase began in the southbound lanes of Interstate 215.

“During the pursuit, Albor was driving recklessly, swerving across three lanes of traffic while traveling at speeds up to 80 mph,” said a statement. “Once Albor exited the freeway, he ran several stop lights and stop signs.”

Deputies rammed the Accord with a patrol car, which caused it to spin out of control and stop at the Moreno Valley location, which was near Sunnymead Park.

Albor had been originally released on a plan ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court requiring the state to lower its prison population by 30,000. He had been identified as a non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious offender, and was released according to provisions of Assembly Bill 109, the prison realignment plan designed to comply with the court’s ruling.

Albor, who will appear in court this week on charges of possessing stolen property and failure to yield, was eventually booked into Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
