Elderly Fair Oaks Woman Murdered in Her Home

FAIR OAKS – A quiet Sunday evening in a Fair Oaks neighborhood turned deadly after police were called to a home and found its elderly female occupant suffering obvious signs of trauma. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Carole Jane Sturgis, 79, was apparently the victim of a random act of violence.  Police arrived at her house after responding to a call concerning a suspicious person in the neighborhood.  Once there, a naked male, later identified as 32-year-old Moses StanleyTrotter, emerged from the home covered in blood.

Trotter reportedly had wandered the neighborhood and entered at least two other homes before breaking into Mrs. Sturgis’ home. He was arrested at the scene.
