Cell phones stolen, grabbed right from victims’ hands

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has put out a release to make citizens aware of a recent string of cell phone thefts.

Sgt. Mark Hale sent a press release Thursday saying there had been a theft of a cell phone from an adult female in the 800 block of Drake Avenue on Wednesday evening.  The suspect was described as a tall, black male between the ages of 16 and 19. The victim said the person took the phone from her hands and ran towards Phillips Drive.  The Sheriff’s Office then confirmed that he ran into the North Western entrance of Ridgeway Apartments and was not found.

In both incidents, the suspect was seen escaping into the Ridgeway Apartments on Donahue

The second incident occurred Monday evening at the bus stop behind the Dollar Store on Donahue Street.  The female victim was approached by a black male, between 17 and 25 who then forcefully grabbed her cell phone from her hand and ran into the Eastern entrance of Ridgeway Apartments and was not found.  The Sheriff’s Office reported that both the crimes appear to be similar in motive and suspect description.

The Sheriff’s Office is also encouraging anyone with information concerning these thefts to call the station at 415-499-7233.
